Houndstooth collect Akkord's sickest EP to date, together with brand new remixes by Regis and Fis alongside grade A reworks by Vatican Shadow and The Haxan Cloak. In the original 'HTH020' Akkord ease off on the trickier elements in favour of focussing on sculpted, visceral sound designs done to powerful effect.
The kerb-crawling half-tempo house pace and drizzly, sleazy atmosphere of 'Gravure' gives a brilliant opening for the collapsed 'ardcore structures of 'Continuum', splicing classic breaks and quasi-speed bass into a black void peopled by acephalic mentasms and iciest drones. By turns, 'Typeface' is more kinetic, distilling elements of techno, garage and D&B into a twitchy, rugged template with speaker-worrying subs, and 'Greyscale' returns to a stoic, de-glazed sound, seemingly trudging thru the rain in some red light district or semi-industrial zone.
The trip turns darker still with The Haxan Cloak's bestial 'Cloud of Witness' slaughter - a landmark of recent electronica - before Vatican Shadow kerns 'Typeface' to the fetish club, followed by an astonishing, rubbled version of 'Gravure / Continuum' in Fis' Hayfield to New Mills version, and the lip-biting lust of Regis' slow, menacing Whip Hand mix for the same cuts.
Highly recommended! (Words) - Boomkat

I didn't realise breakbeats and ambient techno could go so well together, but Skee Mask achieves awesome stuff on this record. humongouslomghonogoufungus
Forrest drive west pulls up the tempo on his dubbed out techno on this banger of an ep. Manic percussion and soothing dub makes for a frighteningly solid compo on this one. Markus (Hårek)
